About the event
This talk is about the symbolism of light, from antiquity to the contemporary age. It links cultural, scientific, artistic and religious references and shows how closely the theme of light is tied to human life and thought.
Topics covered:
• everyday objects and scientific instruments • artistic representations and symbolic interpretations • connections between the secular dimension and religious rites • the rich iconography linked to Christmas, the festival of light
The talk takes up the theme again ahead of the Christmas season and places it in a wider historical and cultural context.
