About the event

The Museo del Paesaggio in Verbania opens Il Grand Tour della pittura on Saturday 7 November 2026. The exhibition is devoted to Aldo Damioli, born in Milan in 1952, and is curated by Elena Pontiggia. It can be visited until 4 April 2027.

The show follows the main stages of his work: early pieces influenced by English Pop Art, the Pizze cycle of the 1980s, and the Venezie-New York paintings begun in 1990, which overlay the two cities. It also includes two works from 2025 inspired by eighteenth-century view painting, and views of Paris, Milan, Antibes, Turin and Nice.

The title refers to the Grand Tour, the journey of formation that led artists and intellectuals to Italian landscapes, including Lake Maggiore. The exhibition enters into dialogue with the museum's permanent collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century works on Lake Maggiore and the surrounding valleys.
